The Old Forge

The Old Forge is a detached, thatched cottage, once the village forge, in the Dartmoor village of Ilsington, close to the pub and shop, about two miles from Haytor Rocks. It sleeps 6 across a double bedroom on the ground floor and two more bedrooms upstairs, a double and a twin, with two shower rooms downstairs.

The ground floor holds the sitting room with a gas burning stove and a Bluetooth speaker, a kitchen with a dining area, and a lobby for coats and boots. Steep old stairs behind old-fashioned doorways lead up to the two further bedrooms under the eaves. Oil-fired central heating backs up the gas stove, and the kitchen has a microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine, induction hob and a Smart TV with Full Fibre WiFi.

Outside, the small enclosed garden is a sun trap with outdoor furniture and storage for bicycles. Parking is usually available on a quiet road nearby, and a pub stands less than a mile from the cottage. Tennis courts, a small skate park and a children's play area are around a 10-minute walk away, and there's an outdoor heated pool at Bovey Tracey, about 4 miles distant.

The Old Forge does not accept children under 6, except babes in arms, because of the steep stairs, and pets aren't permitted. Bookings must commence on a Saturday, and smoking is not allowed. A returnable bond applies.
