Lynmouth
Riverside cottages in a North Devon harbour village
Lynmouth is a harbour village within the Exmoor National Park, where the East Lyn River meets a shingle beach. Independent shops, tea rooms and pubs serve the village, and a water-powered cliff railway connects Lynmouth with the neighbouring hilltop village of Lynton. Mobile signal across the village is variable, so planning ahead is worthwhile.
Three cottages sit on or close to the river. Fox Cottage sleeps four in a double room with river views and a twin attic room with sloping ceilings, sharing one shower room; there is no outside space, parking is in a nearby public car park, and no dogs are accepted. Number 17 takes five across a river-facing double with en-suite, a twin and a single room, with an open fire and two small courtyards including a rear courtyard with an external utility housing the washing machine; up to two dogs are welcome. The four-bedroom Mariners sleeps eight, with a wood burner in the lounge, stable doors opening onto an enclosed patio with garden furniture and a BBQ, and two dogs accepted.
