Ilfracombe

Harbour days and apartments with very different layouts

Ilfracombe is a harbour base for a North Devon holiday. The aquarium is on the pier, so it can anchor a visit around the waterfront. If long days on a broad sandy beach are your priority, compare Woolacombe and Croyde before booking an apartment here.

Read beyond the bedroom count

No.4 at The Eight Coastal Apartments sleeps four and includes one private parking space. It is on the first floor and has no private outdoor area. Captains View is a ground-floor apartment for two. Smuggler’s Cove is also for two, but is a lower-ground studio with a fold-down bed rather than a separate bedroom.

Those differences matter more than a shared Ilfracombe address. Consider whether you want an enclosed sleeping room, how you will carry luggage and where you will leave the car. At Smuggler’s Cove, read the patio-boundary warning as well as the sea-view description. Confirm any access requirements directly with the provider.

A harbour visit in changeable weather

Ilfracombe Aquarium focuses on local aquatic life, following habitats from an Exmoor stream towards the coast and Lundy. It is a contained indoor visit to build into a harbour day, rather than a reason to assume the whole day will be under cover.

The operator describes the Pier Café seating as sheltered but outdoors. Check the aquarium’s current last-entry time before setting out, particularly outside the main holiday season. Dog permission also differs between the café and exhibits; our attraction guide links to the current rules.

Use the North Devon base comparison to weigh Ilfracombe against a beach resort or the rural accommodation around Hartland.
