Westward Ho!

A beach base beside Northam Burrows

Westward Ho! pairs its beach with Northam Burrows Country Park. That gives you a choice between a day on the sand and time around the coastal grassland. Our beach guide covers lifeguard information and the seasonal dog boundary at Sandymere.

Seafront views and hillside approaches

Baywatch sleeps eight across three floors, with a sea-view balcony and parking for two cars. For a smaller party, Sea Views and Fairway Cottage each sleep four and list one allocated parking space. Both sit on the hillside.

A view of the sea does not describe the walk back from the beach. Read the access notes and ask the provider about the approach if you are bringing a pushchair, have limited mobility or expect to carry boards each day. Compare bedrooms and bathroom arrangements before treating the two four-person cottages as interchangeable.

Dogs and beach access

Torridge District Council restricts dogs on the beach south of Sandymere bridge from 1 May to 30 September. During that period, use the permitted northern section and follow the signs at your access point. A property accepting dogs does not remove that restriction.

For a Burrows walk, keep control around the grazing animals and wildlife. The park and the beach have different practical considerations, so check both before deciding where to park. The council’s visitor information includes a map and details of vehicle access.

Choosing a base

Compare Westward Ho! with Hartland if you are deciding between a beach resort and a rural cottage. The North Devon guide also covers Woolacombe, Croyde and Ilfracombe, with the property restrictions that can change a booking decision.
