Bow Cottage

Bow Cottage is a traditional terraced cottage in the heart of East Portlemouth, a small village on the Kingsbridge estuary a short ferry crossing from Salcombe. It sleeps four across two bedrooms and one bathroom, with estuary views from the front and back of the house, strongest from the master bedroom.

Upstairs, the super king-size double looks out over the water through a large picture window, and the twin room has two 3-foot single beds. On the lower ground floor, a windowless den offers a single bed with a pull-out mattress as an alternative sleeping space within the same four-person capacity. The family bathroom, on the same lower floor, has a roll-top bath, a power shower and underfloor heating.

On the ground floor, an open fire warms the sitting room, and the kitchen has an electric Aga, a dishwasher, a microwave and a large butcher's block, plus a dining table seating six and French doors onto a small balcony with estuary views. A washing machine sits in a built-in cupboard, and a barbecue and sun loungers are available for the large rear garden, with parking usually found directly outside.

Bow Cottage takes one well-behaved dog. East Portlemouth has a small cafe open on dry days and three tiny beaches, Fisherman's Cove, Smalls Cove and Mill Bay, each with Safe Bathing status, and a passenger ferry runs year-round across to Salcombe's shops and pubs. The walk down to the beaches takes around seven to ten minutes.
