The Threshing Barn

The Threshing Barn is a converted stone barn in the small hamlet of Higher Hatch, reached by hedge-lined lanes in South Devon. A village shop and pub sit less than a mile away in Churchstow, and a farm shop, deli and cafe are a similar distance in the other direction. Kingsbridge market town is 3 miles north, and Bantham Beach, suited to sunbathing, paddling and rock pooling, is around 4 miles from the door.

Six guests are accommodated across three bedrooms, all on the lower floor and reached by an oak staircase from the main living space above. The king-size master has its own en-suite shower room and a Juliet balcony. The second bedroom has zip-and-link beds that can be made up as a super-king or twin, and the third is a spacious double with countryside views. A family bathroom with shower over the bath serves the two remaining rooms.

The open-plan upper level has a vaulted ceiling with dual-aspect rooflights and underfloor heating throughout. A contemporary kitchen with electric range cooker, induction hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher occupies one end, with a large dining table and lounge area with Smart TV filling the rest. The wood burner in one corner comes with a first basket of logs. A utility area near the rear garden doors holds a washing machine, tumble dryer and an additional fridge.

Outside, the former cattle yard has been landscaped into an enclosed garden combining a large lawn, mixed borders, fruit and nut trees, and several seating areas looking across the valley. A courtyard with outdoor furniture and a rustic dining suite adjoins the space. Note that stone steps lead in and down to the courtyard. Private off-road parking is available for three cars. Two dogs are welcome, though additional charges may apply, and the property is not suitable for stag or hen parties.
