Mortehoe

A quiet North Devon village with clifftop walks and characterful cottage stays

Mortehoe is a village in its own right, distinct from the nearby settlement of Woolacombe that appears in many property addresses. Its character is defined by an old church, local pubs and a tearoom, with footpaths leading out towards Morte Point and Bull Point Lighthouse. Rockpools at Grunta Beach are within easy reach of the village centre, and seals are sometimes spotted along the circular walking routes linking the two headlands.

Properties here vary considerably in layout and style. Seaview Cottage sleeps four in a two-bedroom Victorian terrace with an inglenook fireplace, a roll-top bath, a front patio and a rear courtyard; up to three dogs are welcome. Wykeham is a Georgian end-terrace with wooden floorboards, a wood burner, gas central heating and access to a shared lawn, picnic table and children’s play area, accepting up to two dogs. Those happy without private outdoor space may prefer Morte View, a two-storey village-centre apartment with a separate kitchen, a family bathroom combining bath and separate shower, and interior storage for surfboards or bikes.
