The Sail Loft

The Sail Loft occupies a 17th-century building off a pedestrian walkway close to the centre of Appledore, the fishing village where the Torridge and Taw rivers meet. Four steps down from the front door bring you into a beamed lounge/diner with a TV, hi-fi and a dining table for four. A door leads through to the kitchen, fitted with an electric oven, hob, microwave and a fridge with ice compartment.

The ground-floor bathroom has a shower-over-bath and WC. Stairs from the lounge/diner climb to a galleried landing, off which two bedrooms open: a double with bedside tables and a dressing table, and a bunk bedroom, sleeping up to four guests in total.

Outside, an enclosed courtyard patio sits adjacent to the property, with a BBQ and garden furniture for meals outdoors. A covered pond in the garden means young children will need supervision. A travel cot and highchair are provided, though dogs cannot be accommodated.

Wi-Fi is included, along with electricity and heating. Parking is on the roadside locally rather than at the property itself. Appledore's shops, pubs and bistros serving local seafood are all within a short walk, along the quay where fishing boats moor. A seasonal ferry crosses the estuary to Instow, where there's a sand and shingle beach; the nearest beach by road is around two miles away. Arrival is from 5pm, with departure by 10am.
