Phoenix Cottage

Sitting in the fishing village of Appledore on the North Devon Coast, Phoenix Cottage is a three-bedroom character property sleeping six, with one dog welcome. The harbour, pub and shops are around 150 metres away, making it easy to drop crabbing gear in the outbuilding and walk straight to the quayside. In summer, a ferry crosses the river to Instow, where a sandy, dog-friendly beach and waterside pubs and restaurants are within reach.

The ground floor opens through an entrance porch into a sitting room with a wood burner and comfortable sofas. French doors lead from the kitchen and diner to the enclosed courtyard, and a large internal window keeps the space feeling bright. The kitchen is well equipped with a range cooker featuring a gas hob and two electric ovens, plus a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge-freezer, microwave, air fryer and slow cooker. A large oak table seats the group, and a reclining chair beside it provides a quieter corner. Coat storage is tucked under the stairs.

Upstairs are two king-size bedrooms and a twin, all on the first floor. All but one of the bedrooms feature decorative fireplaces. The bathroom has a bath, a separate shower and a WC, finished with marble-effect walls and timber floorboards said to come from the decking of an old ship. A highchair and stairgate are available; no travel cot is provided.

Outside, the enclosed courtyard has a small table and chairs, well suited for morning coffee. An outbuilding provides a WC plus storage for crabbing buckets, wetsuits and body boards. Parking is in a public car park within a short walk of the property rather than on-site. The wood burner comes with a starter kindling pack between October and April.
