Pennycress

Pennycress is a four-bedroom cottage set in the hamlet of Trimstone, near West Down, sleeping up to eight guests. Large windows, patio doors and skylights fill the interior with natural light, and the layout suits a mix of generations well. Note that there are five steps down before the entrance porch, then a further three steps into the main living area, so the property is not step-free throughout.

The heart of the cottage is a generous open-plan lounge and dining room, where bi-fold doors stretch across one wall and open directly onto the rear garden. A wood burner with a first basket of logs provided makes this room a comfortable place to gather in cooler weather, and a Smart TV completes the setup. A separate kitchen is fitted with an electric oven, gas hob, dishwasher, fridge-freezer and air fryer, plus a second dining table for casual meals. A washing machine and tumble dryer are also available.

The ground-floor en-suite double suits anyone who prefers to avoid the stairs. On the first floor sit a further double bedroom, a bunk room suited to children, and the family bathroom with shower over bath. The king-size suite is reached via a spiral staircase to the third floor and has its own en-suite and Velux windows. Two dogs are welcome, though additional charges may apply.

The landscaped rear garden has a lawn with mature planting and a raised furnished patio for alfresco dining. A charcoal BBQ is provided with accessories stored nearby; charcoal is not included. Private parking is available on site. Woolacombe Beach, a popular spot for surfing and paddle boarding, is roughly a five-minute drive away, and a pub and shop are about 1.5 miles from the cottage.
