Harrold Lodge

Built in the Arts and Crafts era and set high above the coastline, Harrold Lodge accommodates up to 10 guests across five bedrooms in Mortehoe, near Woolacombe. Three bedrooms sit on the ground floor: a double, a super-king that can be made into a twin on request, and a third super-king with wooden flooring and countryside views. Two further bedrooms are upstairs, one twin and one super-king, both spacious with wooden floors and country views. A snug with a two-seater sofa looks out over the bay. Three bathrooms, each with a WC, are spread across both floors.

The kitchen is fitted with modern units and a breakfast bar positioned to take in the sea views, and a separate utility area houses the washing machine and dishwasher. An electric oven, microwave and fridge-freezer complete the cooking setup. The lounge has several sofas arranged around a wood burner, supplied with an initial stock of logs between October and March. A stained-glass window lights the landing staircase to the upper floor. A highchair and standard travel cot are provided, and two dogs are welcome, though additional charges may apply.

Outside, the mature terraced garden has steep grassed lawns and several patio areas; young children should be supervised on the slopes. Private parking is provided for three cars, alongside on-site storage for bikes, surfboards and wetsuits. A pub, shop and the beach are all just over 300 metres from the door.

The circular walk to Morte Point, a Site of Special Scientific Interest roughly 1.5 miles away, follows cliff and coastal paths where kestrels and seals are occasionally spotted. Woolacombe Beach offers three miles of sand with lifeguard patrols and a range of water sports. Arrival is from 17:00 and departure before 10:00; please bring your own beach towels.
