Ferrymans Cottage

This former fisherman's cottage sits metres from the quayside in Appledore, with local pubs, galleries and the Maritime Museum all within easy walking distance. Westward Ho! beach is around 2.5 miles away, and the estuary beach at Instow is reachable via the seasonal passenger ferry, making the cottage a practical base for families who want coast without a long drive.

Six guests sleep across three bedrooms. The king-size room has its own en-suite shower room, a Smart TV and a balcony, while the double also has a Smart TV; a family shower room serves both the double and the twin. Downstairs, exposed beams and a large stone fireplace set the tone in the lounge, where a gas fire with wood-burner effect keeps the room warm through cooler months alongside a Smart TV and DAB radio. A step leads through to the kitchen-diner, fitted with a gas oven and hob, microwave, fridge-freezer and dishwasher, with a wooden dining table and bench seating for the full party. A utility room off the route to the stairs houses the washer-dryer.

To the rear, a small enclosed courtyard provides a private spot for evening drinks or an ice cream from local favourite Hockings. Bedlinen and towels are included, and a travel cot and highchair are available for younger guests. Up to two dogs are welcome, though additional charges may apply.

Parking is roadside or at nearby pay-and-display car parks rather than on a private drive, so it is worth planning arrival accordingly. Check-in is from 16:00 and departure before 10:00.
