Late medieval Dartmoor cottage in Gidleigh with a walled garden

The Bakehouse sits equidistant between the villages of Throwleigh and Gidleigh, sheltered by oak trees close to Throwleigh on Dartmoor's northern edge. This late medieval cottage was part of a historic group of farm buildings around the original farmhouse, where the owners still graze cattle, sheep and ponies. It sleeps 4 across two bedrooms and one shower room.

Downstairs has slate floors and an open-plan living area with a huge fireplace and wood burning stove, a fitted kitchen with granite worktops, and a dining area. Original stone stairs, which guests don't have to use, lead up to oak floors and two first-floor bedrooms: a king-size double with exposed roof timbers, and a twin with 2'6" beds that link to a 5' double on request.

A shower room off the living space has a shower, basin and WC. The kitchen has a fridge, microwave and washer-dryer, and a TV with DVD player and WiFi cover the evenings. Underfloor heating and a wood burning stove keep the cottage warm, with fuel and power included in the rent.

Nearby Chagford has shops, inns, a seasonal outdoor pool and tennis courts, and Okehampton is about 12 miles away. Exeter is around 17 miles for a day out, and sandy beaches are roughly a 20 mile drive.

The cottage looks south over its own walled garden, enclosed and sheltered for sitting outside. Off-road parking is provided for two cars, and a pub is under a mile away. No pets are allowed and the property is no smoking.
