St Elizabeth's House

St Elizabeth's House is a Georgian manor house hotel in Plympton St Maurice, near Plymouth, set in nine acres of lawns and gardens. Fifteen individually designed rooms range from the St Elizabeth's Suite, with its own terrace and whirlpool bath, down to family rooms; every room has a separate bath and shower, European oak furniture, Vispring mattresses and Egyptian cotton sheets.

The restaurant serves dinner Tuesday to Saturday and lunch Wednesday to Sunday, closing for Sunday and Monday evenings and Monday lunch - worth checking before a short visit. As a small, independently run hotel, service leans personal rather than corporate, and the grounds have made it a regular choice for weddings as well as overnight stays.

Plympton is a quieter suburb of Plymouth, a drive from the city's waterfront, Barbican and the National Marine Aquarium. Free on-site parking is provided, and the nine acres of grounds give guests space to walk before or after dinner without leaving the property.

**Best for:** guests wanting a country-house wedding venue or a quiet overnight stay away from Plymouth's centre.

**Less good for:** anyone without a car, given the distance into central Plymouth, or guests hoping to dine on a Sunday or Monday evening, when the restaurant is closed.
