Rutland Lodge & Wellswood Mews

Rutland Lodge and Wellswood Mews is a combined two-building property in Torquay, sleeping 14 across seven bedrooms and available to book as a whole or separately for smaller groups. The Victorian lodge sleeps 10 in five en-suite bedrooms, one on the ground floor and four on the first floor, while the newly built mews cottage accommodates four guests in two first-floor bedrooms served by an upstairs bathroom and a downstairs shower room. Seven bathrooms across both buildings include roll-top baths, showers over the bath and en-suite shower rooms.

The lodge carries its period character throughout: a conservatory with original tiled flooring doubles as a dining and sitting space, a cottage-style kitchen is well equipped for cooking at scale, and the dining room has a table that converts to a pool table. A wood burner with starter packs of logs warms the living room. The mews operates as a fully independent unit with its own kitchen and lounge, practical for extended families who want some separation between generations.

Between the two buildings a south-facing courtyard holds chairs, tables, a covered gazebo with rattan seating, and a Hydropool hot tub seating 8 or 9 people. The hot tub is available from Easter until 31 October only. A separate seasonal BBQ area has worktops, a sink and a double grill; alongside it a wood-fired pizza oven is suitable for dry warm days only. Children and pets must be supervised in the courtyard at all times. Private parking covers three cars, with on-road spaces also nearby.

Up to four dogs are welcome, though additional charges may apply. A pub and a shop are each around 0.2 miles away and the beach is approximately one mile. The town centre and marina are an 800-metre walk, putting restaurants, bars, theatre and cinema within easy reach. Arrival is from 16:00 and departure before 10:00; this is a residential area, so parties are not permitted and music must be kept down after 11pm.
