Rock View Shepherd's Hut

Rock View Shepherd's Hut sits in broad-leafed woodland in Gulworthy, about three miles from Gunnislake and within reach of Tavistock. Five steps lead up to the all-ground-floor studio, close to Wheal Josiah, once the richest copper mine in Europe, with copper details worked into the hut's own fittings.

Inside, a dining area on the left converts into a double bed at night, with a compact kitchenette and a woodburning stove nearby. There is no TV or WiFi, so the hut suits two guests after a quiet break, with a Bluetooth speaker for music instead. A fresh white shower room completes the studio, and bed linen and towels are included in the rent.

Outside is a private woodland garden with a table, chairs and a fire pit, plus a private wood-fired hot tub for two. An unfenced pond sits within the grounds, so guests with young children should take care. Beyond the garden, the Tamar Trails activity centre is around a 20-minute walk away, and the National Trust's Cotehele House, Buckland Abbey and Morwellham Quay, the setting for the BBC's Edwardian Farm, are all within easy reach.

Off-road parking is ample, and fuel, power and a starter pack are included in the rent. Use of a washing machine is by arrangement with the owners. No pets and no smoking are permitted at Rock View, and the nearest shop and pub are 3.5 miles away in Gunnislake.
