Painter's Cottage

This two-bedroom former fisherman's cottage in Appledore sleeps up to three guests and welcomes one dog. Both bedrooms are upstairs: the double has an en suite WC and washbasin, and a single room sits alongside it. The staircase is steep and winding with a handrail, and the owner notes it may not suit guests with limited mobility. A ground-floor bathroom provides a bath with shower over and WC.

The lounge and dining area centres on a feature stone fireplace with an electric fire, comfy seating and a television. A dining table seats the party comfortably, and a galley-style kitchen is equipped with an electric oven, induction hob, fridge-freezer and washing machine. A door from the kitchen opens directly to the rear enclosed courtyard, which has seating and access to an outbuilding with a sink, useful for rinsing sandy paws or muddy boots after a day out.

Parking is not on site. A public car park is a few minutes' walk away and local charges apply; roadside parking nearby may be available free during off-peak periods. Wi-Fi is provided from 21 July 2026 onwards, so guests arriving before that date should plan accordingly. Arrival is from 16:00 and departure before 10:00.

The quayside, independent galleries, pubs and restaurants are all within a short walk. Westward Ho!, with its two miles of sandy beach, is a short drive and suited to surfing or belly boarding. The estuary village of Instow is visible across the River Torridge and reachable by a seasonal passenger ferry running Easter to the end of October, or by a five-mile drive.
