Higher Whiddon Farm Whiddon Well

Higher Whiddon Farm Whiddon Well sits on a working farm on the outskirts of Ashburton, within Dartmoor National Park, attached to the owners' farmhouse. Steps lead down to the cottage, worth knowing if anyone in your group is unsteady on their feet. Inside, oak floors, exposed stone and an inglenook fireplace with a woodburner give the two-bedroom cottage some age and character, and it sleeps 4, including infants.

The king-size double sits upstairs in the eaves, where sloping ceilings may limit headroom, while a twin bedroom and the bathroom are on the ground floor alongside the kitchen, sitting room and dining area. The kitchen has an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and washing machine, and three TVs with Freeview and DVD cover the sitting room and bedrooms. A cot and highchair are provided for younger guests.

Outside, a lawned garden has furniture and a children's slide, and a separate secure dog area with water and a dog house sits away from the lawn, fitted with a safety mesh around a wishing well. Two well-behaved pets are welcome, though the farm keeps horses, chickens, sheep and cows, so dogs must stay on a lead outside the cottage. Off-road parking is provided for 3 cars.

Oil central heating with the woodburner keeps the cottage warm, and fuel, power and a stove starter pack are included in the rent. The cottage takes a minimum stay of 3 nights, with bookings running Friday to Friday. Smoking is not permitted, and the shop and pub are 2 miles away in Ashburton.
