Heron Lodge - Roadford Lake

Heron Lodge sits within a short woodland walk of Roadford Lake in Broadwoodwidger, near Launceston on the Devon and Cornwall border. Six guests are accommodated across three bedrooms: a king-size master with a private walk-in rainfall shower en-suite, and two twin rooms, one of which has zip-and-link beds that can be made into a super-king on request. A separate family bathroom with shower over bath serves the remaining bedrooms.

The open-plan kitchen, living and dining space is fitted with a range-style cooker with gas hob, two fridges, freezer, microwave, dishwasher, wine cooler and a washer-dryer. Smart TVs are in every room, the lounge set has a Bluetooth soundbar, and superfast Wi-Fi covers the property. Private parking is provided for two cars, and two VendElectric EV charging points are available on site.

The south-facing enclosed patio has an outdoor dining table and chairs for six, a parasol and a BBQ stand for disposable BBQs (guests should bring their own). A private hot tub sits on the terrace. The patio is fenced with coated mesh and has a secure gate, though the practical notes ask that dogs and children are supervised outside as determined individuals may find a way out. The on-site gym is shared and free to use, and a dedicated dog-wash station and off-lead dog-walk area are located beside the lakeside cafe, which is roughly a two-minute walk away.

Two dogs are welcome, though all dogs must be kept on a lead across the wider site; no other animals are permitted. The water sports centre at Roadford Lake offers kayaking, paddleboarding, sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, climbing, high ropes and archery. Dartmoor National Park is around 10 miles away, and the Atlantic coast at Bude is approximately 20 miles. Arrival is from 16:00 and departure by 10:00.
