Docton House

Docton House is one of the older properties in Appledore, renovated while keeping a number of period features intact. The village sits at the point where the rivers Torridge and Taw meet before reaching the Atlantic, with narrow streets, fishermen's cottages and a maritime history to explore on foot, since pubs, a shop, the quayside and the beach are all within walking distance.

The ground floor holds a cosy lounge with an inglenook fireplace and wood burner, a TV and DVD player, and comfortable seating. The kitchen is fitted with an electric oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher, while a separate external utility room houses the washing machine, tumble dryer and a freezer. The dining room, reached up two steps, seats up to eight around a large table, and the ground-floor bathroom has a bath with shower attachment and a WC.

Bedrooms are arranged across split levels. Three steps up from the ground floor is a double room with its own en-suite shower room and WC. Upstairs there is a second double, a twin with en-suite shower room and WC, and a further twin bedroom, giving four bedrooms and sleeping up to eight guests in total. The property is reached via eleven steps and has some uneven flooring, worth bearing in mind for anyone with mobility concerns.

Outside, an enclosed walled garden and a patio at the rear give space to sit out, with garden furniture and a barbecue provided. Parking is roadside or pay-and-display rather than on a private drive. One dog is welcome by arrangement, with additional charges possibly applying, and smoking is not permitted inside the house. Bed linen, towels, electricity and central heating are all included in the stay.
