Clover Cottage

Clover Cottage stands right on the water at Hooe Lake, a stone-built cottage in the village of Hooe, close to Mount Batten. It sleeps 2 and does not take children, making it a base for a couple.

The open-plan ground floor holds a sitting room with an inglenook fireplace and woodburning stove at one end and a kitchen/diner at the other, plus a separate utility room. The kitchen has an electric oven, gas hob, coffee machine, microwave, fridge freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. The ground-floor bathroom has a bath with a shower over, basin and heated towel rail.

A steep, winding stair leads up from the sitting room to the king-size bedroom, which is not suitable for anyone with limited mobility. The rear garden, an enclosed lawn, is reached by the same stairs. A separate front garden overlooks the lake and has lawn and seating for morning coffee or a meal cooked on the gas BBQ.

The cottage dates from around 1690 and is Grade II listed. Hooe Lake itself covers 14 hectares, is tidal with mudflats and open water, and is designated a County Wildlife Site, open to the public for paddleboarding and kayaking. A 30-minute walk along the South West Coast Path leads to the Mount Batten ferry across to Plymouth's Barbican.

Clover Cottage welcomes two well-behaved dogs. Off-road parking covers one car, fuel, power, bed linen and towels are included in the rent, and smoking is not permitted. A shop is 0.2 miles away and a pub 0.1 miles.
