Burr 1 Shepherds Hut

Burr 1 Shepherds Hut stands in the countryside of Swimbridge, near Barnstaple, a single-storey studio hut reached by a few steps up into the living space. It's one of a group of four shepherd's huts and cottages sharing grounds with a lake and shaded woodland, plus two miniature ponies that graze alongside the pasture. The open-plan studio sleeps 2, with a double bed, kitchen, dining and sitting areas all under one roof, and Barnstaple's well-known Pannier Market lies a few miles away.

A woodburning stove keeps the hut warm on cooler nights, with some logs and kindling provided for short stays. The kitchen runs on an electric oven and hob, with an air-fryer, fridge, kettle and toaster, and WiFi covers the studio. The shower room has a walk-in shower, basin, heated towel rail and WC. Bed linen, towels, fuel and power are all included in the rent.

Outside, the non-enclosed garden has decking, furniture, a barbecue and a private hot tub, with robes and slippers provided. A chimenea lets you eat outdoors after dark. Off-road parking is available, along with covered storage for bikes. The North Devon beaches at Woolacombe and Saunton Sands are within driving distance for a day at the coast.

The hut is adults only, with no children under 16 accepted, and no pets are allowed, though the owner's own dogs may wander the site. Bookings can't start on a Sunday, and the longest short break is three nights. CCTV covers the grounds, and from January 2027 a charge applies for hot tub use.
