Clifftop coastguard cottage with sea views over Torbay

This former coastguard cottage sits in a private cul-de-sac on a clifftop above Torbay, with the coastal headland of Daddyhole Plain directly in front of the house and the South West Coast Path passing close by. The harbour area of Torquay, with its restaurants, shops and museums, lies under a mile away, and the sheltered Beacon Cove and Meadfoot Beach are also within reach.

Inside, the entrance lobby has underfloor heating and the open-plan living room features high ceilings, a wood burner (logs not provided) and patio doors opening onto a south-facing front terrace with sea views across Torbay. There are no blinds on these glass doors, which look out towards Daddyhole Plain, so this is worth bearing in mind for early risers or those wanting more privacy. The dining area seats six and the galley kitchen is equipped for self-catering, with an oven, induction hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and washer/dryer. A ground-floor bathroom has a rain shower over the bath, WC and underfloor heating.

Upstairs, the king-size bedroom looks inland towards Torquay town and Babbacombe, while the twin bedroom has sea views across Torbay and a window fitted with the original coastguard hammer once used to summon crews to sea. A single bedroom on the same floor also has panoramic sea views. The cottage sleeps five in total. Outside, the enclosed front terrace has garden furniture and low-level lighting, while the enclosed rear courtyard offers a dining table and chairs, a BBQ, washing line, outdoor tap and power point.

A highchair and stairgate are provided, making this a practical option for younger children. Parking for one car is available on the private cul-de-sac road outside the property, and there is electric vehicle charging on site. Up to two dogs can stay, though they must remain on the hard-floored rooms downstairs, kept off the sofas and chairs, and are asked not to go beyond the sliding doors between the dining room and hall; additional charges may apply. A shop and pub are around 400 metres away, with the beach roughly half a mile from the door.
