Townend Barn

Townend Barn sits in the centre of Lydford, a village on Dartmoor's western edge, and is a single-level conversion built for two. A fully-tuned Steinway grand piano stands in the open-plan living space, alongside original sculptures and artwork and a woodburning stove, beneath a high ceiling to the apex.

Oak floors run through the interior, where older furniture sits alongside new pieces. A heavy curtain separates off the double bedroom, which has a beamed ceiling, and a shower room next door has a shower, basin and WC.

The kitchen has a microwave, fridge and dishwasher, and the sitting area has a TV with DVD and WiFi, though guests need their own account for any streaming apps. Central heating runs throughout, with fuel and power included in the rent.

Outside, a sloping gravel path leads to a private lawned garden with a table and chairs. Off-road parking is provided for one car, and up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome, with larger dogs needing to be checked with the owner first. Smoking is not permitted, and a pub is within a mile.

Lydford itself has a Post Office, a farm shop and two food pubs, plus National Trust Lydford Gorge and its waterfall close by. The market town of Tavistock is a short drive away, and the sea and beaches are around 25 miles off, roughly equidistant between Devon's north and south coasts.
