The Shippon at Wyke Farm

The Shippon is one of two barn conversions at Wyke Farm, a 17th-century farmstead that lies just outside Axminster, with views over the Axe Valley. A gravel path slopes up from the parking to the patio and gravel garden, and the open-plan living space has vaulted ceilings, beams and full-length patio doors and windows around two sofas and a wood burner.

A raised dining area gives a full view of the living room, and two steps lead up to a twin room and a double room with a super-king bed that can be split into two singles, sharing a family bathroom. At the opposite end of the barn, three steps lead down to the ground-floor king-size double, which has a stable door, TV and en-suite shower room.

The kitchen has an electric oven and hob, a microwave, fridge-freezer, washer-dryer and dishwasher, and a highchair and travel cot are available for younger guests. Fuel, power and bed linen are included in the rent.

Outside, a spacious patio with tables and chairs looks across the rolling countryside, and there is a charcoal barbecue and off-road parking for two cars. The Shippon takes two well-behaved dogs, with a small fee charged for the second, and smoking is not permitted. The path to the entrance is a sloped gravel track with steps within the property, and the shop and pub are around two miles away.
