The Sharpham Boat House

The Boat House sits on the Sharpham Estate on the River Dart, a short distance from Ashprington. It is a single-storey timber building reached by a footpath and steps, and the property is adults only.

Inside, the studio layout puts a double bed in the main living space alongside a kitchen, a dining table for two and a sitting area built around a woodburning stove. Fuel and power for the stove are included in the rent. A shower room with a walk-in shower, basin and WC completes the accommodation. There is no television or WiFi here, and mobile signal can be patchy, so it suits guests happy to switch off for a few days.

Outside, a private garden has storage space, a lawn and furniture, a place to take in the river views over a morning coffee or an evening drink. Guests can also store kayaks, canoes or paddleboards on site, useful for heading straight out onto the water, and there is access to a shared, unheated outdoor swimming pool at Sharpham House through the summer months, weekdays only between 9.30am and 4.30pm.

The Boat House does not accept pets, and short stays require a minimum of 3 nights. At very high tides the stone quay and garden can flood, so bookings are not taken around those dates, though the cottage itself stays dry. The property draws its water from a private supply that is tested regularly, and guests are asked to keep noise down outdoors to preserve the quiet of the setting.
