The Bathing House

The Bathing House is a Grade II* listed Georgian building on the Sharpham Estate, beside the River Dart around two miles from Ashprington, reached by half a mile of bumpy track. Part of an estate laid out by Capability Brown, the cottage sleeps 3 across three floors.

Steps lead down into a ground-floor kitchen that looks directly onto the river, with a utility room and a downstairs WC. A middle-floor double bedroom opens onto a private balcony over the water, and a further flight of stairs leads to an octagonal sitting room with a lofty ceiling, a wood burning stove and a double sofa bed.

The kitchen has a microwave, fridge, freezer and washer-dryer, and there's a telescope in the sitting room for watching the river. A cot and highchair are available on request. There is no television or WiFi at the property. An outdoor, unheated pool at Sharpham House is available to guests from June to the end of August, during daylight hours, shared with other guests.

Outside, a small private garden overlooks the river, with a terrace for eating out, and off-road parking is provided for two cars. On the highest tides the river can flow over the stone quay beneath the kitchen, so the property isn't let out during the very highest tides, and floodgates are fitted as a precaution. No pets are allowed, and smoking isn't permitted.
