The Little Snug

Sitting at the foot of wooded Skaigh Valley within Dartmoor National Park, this former workers' cottage sleeps four across two bedrooms. The king-size room and twin room both have zip-and-link beds, so the configuration can be adjusted to twin beds on request. One family bathroom with a shower over the bath, heated towel rail and WC serves both rooms. The stairs are steep and reflect the age of the building, so younger children need to take care, and children under five are not accepted. Up to three dogs are welcome, with an outside hot and cold tap for muddy paws after a walk on the moors.

The open-plan ground floor centres on a wood burner, with the first basket of logs included. A well-equipped kitchen runs to a double electric oven, induction hob, microwave, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and a Nespresso coffee machine. A dining table handles mealtimes and board games alike, and a Smart TV and Bluetooth speaker are available for quieter evenings. A rear door leads directly from the kitchen to the outdoor space.

Outside, an enclosed rear patio has seating, dining furniture and a BBQ. A secure outbuilding at the rear provides covered storage for bikes. Note that a neighbouring property holds a right of way across the rear patio for essential access only. Parking is on-street and subject to availability.

Okehampton is the nearest town for wider provisions, while a pub and a shop are both just over 150 metres from the cottage. Finch Foundry, a National Trust water-powered forge, is a short walk away, and Castle Drogo lies about eight miles distant. The Granite Way offers a traffic-free cycling and walking route for those looking for a gentler day out on the moor.
