Tawny Cottage

Tawny Cottage is a converted barn reached up a flight of stone steps, part of a small complex of five properties set in shared grounds near Kings Nympton, close to South Molton. Inside, an open-plan lounge, kitchen and dining area forms the main living space, with sofas arranged around a TV/DVD player and a kitchen fitted with an electric oven and hob, microwave and fridge/freezer.

Upstairs, three bedrooms sleep up to five guests: a king-size room, a twin and a single, sharing one bathroom with a shower over the bath and a separate WC. A travel cot and highchair are available for younger visitors, and the layout involves stairs to all bedrooms, so it will not suit guests who need ground-floor sleeping.

To the rear, a small enclosed patio garden has outdoor furniture, a charcoal barbecue and a fire pit with a Dutch oven, with logs and charcoal sold on site and matches provided free. A hot tub with robes can be booked directly with the owner for £45 per two-hour session, arranged privately for the exclusive use of the party during that time. Off-road parking is provided for one car; a second car incurs a £15 charge, donated to the Devon Wildlife Trust as part of the owners' green initiative.

Guests share access to a children's play area and play barn, a summerhouse, a dog exercise paddock, an alpaca field and 18 acres of grounds with walking routes, along with a laundry room and rotary clotheslines. Two dogs are welcome for an additional charge, though they should be kept on a lead near the site's free-ranging chickens. Check-in is from 5pm and check-out by 10am.
