Robin Cottage - Bishops Tawton

Robin Cottage stands in the centre of Bishops Tawton, a village near Barnstaple in North Devon. Dating from the 16th century, the thatched building retains original features such as oak beams throughout its interior. Countryside surrounds the village, with walking and cycling routes nearby including the Tarka Trail, which runs for 180 miles off-road and passes tearooms and pubs along its length. A walk up Codden Hill gives views across to Dartmoor, and the village pub serves homemade food close by.

The cottage sleeps two in a single king-size bedroom reached by a staircase, furnished with a Smart TV. A bathroom with a walk-in shower and WC completes the accommodation. Downstairs, the open-plan kitchen is fitted with an electric oven and hob, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washing machine and microwave, alongside a dining table for two and a lounge with a further Smart TV.

Outside, an enclosed garden holds a bistro table and chairs for dining outdoors, plus a private hot tub. This makes the cottage well suited to a couple wanting a self-contained base with outdoor space rather than a shared communal area. Further afield, Instow lies around 10 miles away, known for its sandy, dog-friendly waterfront with cafes, pubs and restaurants; in summer a pedestrian ferry crosses from there to Appledore, with its cobbled streets and independent shops. Westward Ho!, roughly 11 miles distant, offers three miles of sand for surfing.

One dog is welcome, with additional charges possibly applying. Parking is on-street and subject to availability rather than guaranteed on site, worth factoring in when planning arrival. A pub lies around 100 metres away, with a shop roughly 1.5 miles from the cottage and the nearest beach around 10 miles off. Check-in runs from 16:00 and check-out is by 10:00.
