This three-bedroom bungalow in Croyde sleeps five and sits a quarter of a mile from the beach, making it a practical base for surfers, families and anyone who wants quick access to the coast without giving up creature comforts. Two dogs are welcome, and private parking for two cars is on site. Arrival is from 16:00 and departure is before 10:00.

The open-plan living area centres on oversized sofas, a Smart TV and an Xbox 360, with a skylight and large windows keeping the space light throughout the day. Underfloor heating runs throughout the whole bungalow, so cooler evenings are well covered. The kitchen is finished with white units and blue accents and includes an electric oven and hob, microwave, Lor coffee machine, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. A breakfast bar with stools sits alongside an oak dining table that seats six.

Sleeping arrangements are flexible: the main bedroom has a king-size bed and patio doors leading outside; the twin room has zip-and-link beds that can be made up as a king on request; and the third room has a single bed. Both the king and twin rooms have Smart TVs. The single bathroom serves all three bedrooms and has a bath, shower over the bath, a WC and a heated towel rail. A travel cot and highchair are available on request.

Patio doors from the kitchen, lounge and main bedroom open onto a private courtyard with dining furniture, handy for meals outdoors. An outdoor shower is available for rinsing off after the beach, and is particularly useful for dogs and surfboards. Guests should bring their own beach towels. Electric vehicle charging is available via an outdoor 13-amp plug, though a compatible charger is required.
