13th-century thatched pub inn on Dartmoor's edge near Okehampton

Bearslake Inn is a 13th-century thatched longhouse pub on the edge of Dartmoor, roughly 2 miles south of the A30 between Okehampton and Tavistock. The building has stood on this route for more than 700 years, and its current owners have run it for over a decade.

Six en-suite rooms sit above the bar, three fitted with extra beds for families. The kitchen sources meat, fish and vegetables from Devon farmers and fishermen for a menu of pub classics, and the bar stocks West Country ales, gins and whiskies alongside a curated wine list.

A gate beside the pub opens onto the Granite Way, a disused-railway cycle path that follows this edge of the moor, with Sourton Tor rising within easy walking distance. Okehampton itself is a short drive away for shops and the Dartmoor visitor centre, and the inn makes a good base for walking Corn Ridge and Great Links Tor without needing a car once settled in.

**Best for:** Walkers and cyclists using the Granite Way, and diners wanting a Dartmoor pub meal built on Devon produce.

**Less good for:** Guests who need a step-free room or an on-site lift - it is a 700-year-old building with stairs to the bedrooms.
