4 Cumberland Cottages

4 Cumberland Cottages is a thatched, 16th-century cottage in the village of Ringmore, about a mile from Challaborough. It sleeps 4 across two king-size bedrooms on the first floor, with a bathroom on the ground floor, and electric heating throughout.

Downstairs, a snug with a desk and sofa opens onto the sitting room, which has exposed beams, stonework, a woodburning stove and a TV with DVD player. Logs for the stove aren't included but can be bought locally. The kitchen/diner beyond is well-equipped, with an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, and a dining table for four, and the ground floor also holds the bathroom, fitted with a shower over the bath, basin and WC.

Given the age of the building, the ceilings and doorways are low throughout, and the inside stairs to the first-floor bedrooms are steep with additional steps into each room. There's also a steep step onto the shared front path and the cottage sits on a steep hill, so it's described as unsuitable for children or anyone with mobility issues.

Two well-behaved pets are welcome, and parking is available nearby rather than on site. The cottage is no smoking throughout and cannot accommodate Sunday changeovers. The shop is 0.7 miles away, the pub 0.1 miles and the beach 0.3 miles.
