Ladram Bay is a red-cliff beach with a pair of sea stacks standing just off the shore, and it belongs to a holiday park. That shapes the day. It suits guests staying at the park more than anyone planning a spontaneous drive-and-park beach trip. If you are staying nearby in Otterton, contact the park before you plan a day here.

The beach

This is a sand and pebble beach backed by red Devonian sandstone cliffs, with two equally high, equally red stacks just off the beach. The holiday park calls it a private beach with a Beach Shack open daily in season, 9am to 5pm, and says it suits rock-pooling and kayaking. The shack offers a range of hire items.

Getting there and parking

A private road brings you down a steep hill to a controlled public car park at the bottom. The shingle beach is reached by a concrete slipway about 3 metres wide, which the park calls unsuitable for wheelchairs or anyone with mobility problems because of the steepness. Parking is not allowed at the top or bottom of the slipway. There are toilets at the top of the slipway and in the Three Rocks Inn complex, 300 metres from reception.

The only road access is through the holiday park, a mile from Otterton, and the park has run a residents-only access policy in summer. The South West Coast Path runs directly past the beach.

Swimming

There is no lifeguard service, so take extra care before entering the water and avoid swimming in rough or unfamiliar conditions.
