The Lake Island Hideaway

This wooden lodge sits on a working farm near Roborough, close to Great Torrington, and sleeps four across two bedrooms. The ground-floor king-size room is beside the shower room with WC, while the twin bedroom is on a mezzanine reached by a steep staircase and has limited headroom, making it better suited to children than adults. A double sofa bed is available on request for flexible arrangements within the four-person capacity.

Cross a bridge over the lake to reach the lodge itself, where bi-fold doors open the open-plan living area to the wraparound deck. Inside, a wood burner provides the primary heating, with the first basket of logs included and further logs available to buy from the owner at £5 per bucket; electric oil-filled radiators can be requested as a supplement. The kitchen has a gas hob, microwave and fridge-freezer, and the oak breakfast bar seats the whole party for meals together.

The enclosed wraparound deck is furnished with outdoor seating and hammocks. Back across the bridge, a further lakeside seating area has a built-in BBQ and a fire pit. A shared games room on the farm offers a pool table, table tennis and darts. Guests can join the daily animal feeds at 8am, and the owner can arrange homemade meals, farm-reared breakfast produce delivered to the door, on-site pilates sessions and pampering treatments. Two dogs are welcome, and two cars fit in the private off-road parking.

RHS Rosemoor Gardens is roughly four miles away, and the Tarka Trail around nine miles, offering traffic-free walking and cycling. The nearest pub is about a mile away, the nearest shop around seven miles, and the closest beach approximately thirteen miles.
