Hidden Valley Farmhouse

This refurbished 1850s farmhouse sits about 400 metres down an unmade track outside Goodleigh, near Barnstaple, and sleeps eight across four bedrooms. Two rooms have king-size beds, including the vaulted master with its own walk-in shower and hidden WC; the third is a twin; and the fourth is a super-king-size zip-and-link that can be split into twins on request. A separate en-suite shower room serves one of the other bedrooms, the family bathroom has a freestanding bath, walk-in shower and twin sinks, and a further WC sits downstairs. The property runs entirely off-grid on solar panels with battery storage, backed by a diesel generator housed in the games room.

The main living space is open-plan, with patio doors from the kitchen-diner opening onto a decked seating area. A wood burner, with the first basket of logs included, anchors the sitting area alongside a Smart TV. The kitchen is equipped with a range electric oven, gas hob, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, microwave, wine fridge and a Nespresso machine, making it well suited to longer stays and larger group meals.

Outside, three separate lawned areas include tree swings and goalposts, and a path winds through a small copse. The decking has seating, a fire pit and a charcoal BBQ for alfresco evenings. The separate games room holds a full-size table tennis table, a full-size pool table and a dartboard. A pub is roughly a mile away.

The unmade track is always passable in a standard family car but will muddy wheels and wheel arches in wet weather. Up to three dogs are welcome, though additional charges may apply. Arrival is from 16:00 and departure before 10:00.
