Splash Cottage

Sitting at the end of a row of thatched cottages in Ponsworthy, near Ashburton, this listed granite cottage looks out over a historic ford and clapper bridge. Its stone facade, hanging baskets and thatched roof have appeared on book covers and postcards, so arriving feels immediately familiar. The Two Moors Way passes the property, making it a practical base for walkers, and Dartmoor's open moorland is on the doorstep.

Inside, exposed stone walls and wooden beams frame an open-plan lounge and dining area centred on a wood burner, with the first basket of logs supplied. Chesterfield sofas face a Smart TV with a basic Sky package, and a wooden dining table sits behind the sofa. A barn door leads through to the kitchen, equipped with an electric oven and hob, fridge-freezer, air fryer, microwave and dishwasher. The ground floor also includes a utility room with a washing machine and a family bathroom with shower over the bath. Both bedrooms are upstairs under the eaves: one king-size and one double.

The enclosed, split-level garden has a gravelled patio with bench seating and a parasol, and a lawned area with flower beds beyond. On-street parking is available for one car. Please note that charging electric vehicles or electric bikes is not permitted due to insurance restrictions.

The cottage sleeps four and welcomes up to two dogs, with a pet pack of bed, mat, bowls, towel, poo bags and treats provided. A travel cot and highchair are available on request. Arrival is from 15:00 and departure before 10:00. Widecombe-in-the-Moor, with a couple of pubs and traditional cafes, is around 2.5 miles away, and the market town of Ashburton is 6 miles distant.
