Converted 1976 fire truck at Chapmanswell, near Launceston

Dashing Dennis is a converted 1976 fire engine on Chapmanswell Caravan Park, a single-storey, studio-style stay near Launceston and within reach of Virginstow. It sleeps 2 in one open room built around a double bed.

The studio space holds the bed alongside a small kitchen area with a Calor gas hob, air fryer and kettle, plus a couple of seats for relaxing. There is no private bathroom inside the truck itself: guests use shared shower and WC facilities a short walk away on the campsite, and an electric heater keeps the space warm.

The wider campsite has its own bar and restaurant, useful for evenings when cooking in the truck feels like too much effort, and a strict 5 mile an hour speed limit applies across the grounds. Fuel, power, bed linen and towels are included in the rent, and WiFi reaches the truck.

Off-road parking is provided for one car, and Dashing Dennis welcomes one well-behaved pet. Smoking is not permitted. The on-site pub is about 0.1 miles away, though the nearest shop is a longer trip at 5.9 miles, and Launceston itself is around 7 miles by road, with its Norman castle ruins and Georgian architecture worth the drive. From the campsite, the north Cornish coast around Bude is also within reach for a day out by the sea.
