The Plymouth British Fireworks Championships are provisionally scheduled for Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 August 2027 on Plymouth Hoe. Six of the country’s leading professional pyrotechnic companies will compete across two evenings to become the British Firework Champions 2027, with each display synchronised to music and judged on technical skill, creativity and audience impact.

The dates for 2027 and 2028 remain provisional and subject to change, so check the official Visit Plymouth website for confirmation closer to the event.

Visitor information

Dates: Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 August 2027 (provisional - check for confirmation).

Venue: Plymouth Hoe, the iconic waterfront promenade overlooking Plymouth Sound.

Admission: Free to attend. No tickets required. Spectators can watch from anywhere on the Hoe and surrounding vantage points.

Fireworks: Displays begin after dark on both evenings. Three competing companies each night, with the winning team crowned at the awards ceremony after Thursday’s displays and announced online on Friday morning.

Safety: A strict no-fly zone operates from 2pm to 11pm on both days. Only authorised drones are permitted.

What to expect

The championships showcase the incredible talent and artistry of Britain’s top pyrotechnic companies. Each 10-minute display combines technical fireworks choreographed to music, with judges assessing innovation, timing, visual impact and synchronisation.

Plymouth Hoe provides a dramatic natural amphitheatre for the displays, with the waterfront setting allowing spectacular reflections on Plymouth Sound. The event attracts tens of thousands of spectators across the two evenings.

Bring a picnic or buy food and drink from the many vendors on site. Arrive early to secure a good viewing spot, especially for Thursday’s final night. The funfair and live music stages operate from afternoon through to the fireworks.
