What to see
The procession features decorated floats, walking entries in costume, performance groups and community organisations. Floats compete for prizes in various categories, with judging based on creativity, design and carnival spirit.
Entertainment on The Square and The Strand runs from 2pm, with live music, performances and activities for children. Food and drink stalls operate throughout the afternoon and evening. The carnival closes with a fireworks display at 8pm.
Barnstaple town centre becomes a pedestrian area for the event, with road closures in place from late afternoon. This creates a festival atmosphere across the town as thousands of spectators line the procession route.
