Wrens Thatch

This detached 17th-century thatched cottage sits within the grounds of the owners' Georgian home at Ebberley, near Torrington, with its own entrance and enclosed garden. The open-plan living space features exposed beams, wood pellet underfloor heating and a wood burner with logs included. A well-equipped kitchen includes a range-style electric oven, induction hob, dishwasher and microwave, and the utility room houses a washer/dryer alongside space for muddy boots and coats.

Both bedrooms are upstairs and have zip-and-link super-king beds, convertible to twins on request. One has an en-suite shower room with WC; the other an en-suite with roll-top bath, hand-held shower and WC. A ground-floor wet room with WC serves the main living area. Bathrobes are provided.

Outside, the enclosed patio holds a private hot tub, seating and lawn. A gate leads to a wild flower meadow with a fire pit, where dogs must remain on leads. A separate field across from the cottage allows off-lead exercise. The property has ample off-road parking and an outdoor tap for muddy boots and paws. Dogs are permitted on the ground floor only and a stairgate is provided; two dogs are welcome, though additional charges may apply.

Five miles from Torrington and 11 miles from Westward Ho!, the cottage suits exploration of North Devon. A pub is 1.2 miles away and shops 2.5 miles. Travel cot and highchair are available. The owners also offer two B&B rooms in the adjacent Georgian house, which can accommodate extra guests for all or part of a stay. Arrival from 16:00; departure before 10:00.
