Sandsgate

Sandsgate stands in 18 acres of grounds at Spinster's Rock, near Chagford, with views across the Teign Valley to Castle Drogo. This detached house has been in the same family for more than 60 years and sleeps 12 across six bedrooms, and the owners also welcome smaller groups by arrangement.

A long private driveway leads to the house, set among lawns, ancient forest and a prehistoric stone circle. Three sets of double doors open onto a patio running the length of the house, with a dining table, a large charcoal barbecue and sofa seating under parasols. Inside, the sitting room has an open fire, plush sofas and a separate home office.

Stairs from the hall lead to a games room with table football and air hockey, which links to the sunroom and balcony of the master bedroom. This bedroom has a large en-suite bathroom; three further first-floor bedrooms share two shower rooms, one with a jacuzzi bath. Two more bedrooms on the second floor, under the eaves, share a bathroom.

The kitchen has a dual-fuel range oven, two microwaves, a washing machine and tumble dryer, plus a utility room with a second washing machine and dryer for outdoor kit. Two cots, two highchairs and a stairgate are available on request, and every bedroom has a TV.

Off-road parking is provided for six cars, and up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome, though they're kept to the kitchen and dining area and not allowed upstairs. Smoking is not permitted, stag and hen parties are not accepted, short breaks need a minimum stay of three nights, and the maximum stay is two weeks.
