The Retreat

Set within the owner's grounds in the hamlet of Shute, this glamping pod sleeps up to two people and sits inside an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The curved wooden roof and open-plan interior give the space a distinctive character, with a snug lounge area, a compact kitchenette fitted with hotplates, microwave and half-size fridge-freezer, and a dining table positioned near the front. The double bed is tucked behind the sofa, and a bathroom with a walk-in shower and WC sits off to the side. Underfloor heating runs throughout, keeping the pod comfortable in any season.

Access is level with three small steps up to the deck and front door. Immediately outside, a decked area is set with two chairs for taking in the view, while the surrounding lawn is backed by mature hedges and fruit trees. Sun loungers sit beneath an apple tree and an outdoor dining set is provided for meals in the open air. A gas-fired BBQ is available from spring through autumn but is not provided during winter months. One parking space is available on site, and Wi-Fi is present though described as variable.

Footpaths lead directly from the grounds across fields and woodland, making it straightforward to head out on foot without driving. The Jurassic Coast is around five miles away, with Seaton the nearest beach option. Kilmington, roughly two miles distant, has a farm shop and several pubs.

Up to two dogs are welcome at an additional charge, though they must not be left unattended in the garden given horses and livestock on the adjacent land. No other pets are permitted. The pod suits couples or solo travellers, and infants up to the age of two are also welcome.
